Description
A woman in a dark fur trimmed coat sits with one hand resting loosely below her chin, her face and hand the only light in an otherwise near black canvas. Gold earrings catch a faint gleam against her dark hair, pinned up high.
Painted early in Renoir’s career, before he found the brighter Impressionist palette he became known for, the portrait owes an obvious debt to Courbet’s dark, tonal realism, warm skin the single bright note against deep brown and black.
Reproduced as a hand-painted oil on canvas or as an archival canvas print, at its original 65 by 54 centimeters or scaled to any size, framed or unframed.
