Description

A group gathers on the grass beneath tall trees for a picnic, several women in white and rose dresses seated around a spread cloth while a man in blue crouches nearby and a small dog waits at the edge of the group. Two more figures stand talking in the shaded background.

Painted late in Renoir’s career at a Mediterranean garden, the scene keeps everyone loosely gathered rather than posed, dappled light falling through the canopy onto warm rose fabric and pale skin.
