Description
A pheasant and a smaller game bird lie together on a white tiled ledge trimmed in pink, their brown and cream feathers rendered in loose, textured strokes against a dark, plain background. The pheasant’s long tail feathers trail off the edge of the tile.
This is a traditional hunting still life, a subject with a long history in French painting, though Renoir handles the feathers with the same loose, painterly touch he brought to fruit and flowers rather than tight, academic detail.
Reproduced as a hand-painted oil on canvas or as an archival canvas print, at its original 40.5 by 65 centimeters or scaled to any size, framed or unframed.
