Description
A young woman is shown to just below the shoulders, turned slightly toward us. Her dark hair is drawn up loosely, an earring catches the light, and her lips are parted as though she has just been spoken to. She wears a pale blue and cream wrap, open at the front.
The ground behind her is mottled olive and yellow green, and a red brown vertical band closes the right edge, reading as a door frame or the edge of a hanging. There is a faint inscription in the upper right corner.
The paint is dragged thin over the whole canvas, so the weave stands out everywhere, and the picture is built almost entirely from warm olive and green against the cool blue of the wrap. Dated 1892.
