Description

A young woman stands facing us, bare to the waist, holding out a small gold tray with a blue and white teapot and cups on it. Her fair hair is worked into a long plait that falls forward over her shoulder, and a pale yellow band is tied round her head.

Below the waist she wears loose salmon pink trousers gathered at the ankle, a blue green sash knotted at the hip, and blue embroidered slippers. To the left is a divan with a flowered cushion and a yellow green cover; a violet blue panel closes the far left edge; everything else is rose red hanging. Renoir signed at the lower right.

The tray and the porcelain are the only hard edges in the picture. Everything else, cloth, flesh, wall, is painted with the same soft loaded brush, so the blue and white china acts as the single point of focus.

The craft

The oil edition of this Renoir artwork is painted by hand on canvas. A canvas art print reproduces the image in ink, with the brushmarks visible in the picture rather than raised paint.

  • Oil editions painted individually by studio artists
  • Canvas prints reproduce the image on canvas
  • Individually quality-inspected before it leaves the studio
  • Made to order in your chosen size and presentation

Materials & Care

Materials

The oil reproduction is painted on cotton canvas; the art print is printed on canvas. Rolled canvas arrives without a stretcher. Stretched canvas is mounted on a wooden stretcher frame; thin and thick frames are separate presentation choices.

On request, the studio provides a certificate for your hand-painted reproduction; it certifies the studio's work, not an original by the artist.

Care

Dust gently with a soft, dry cloth. Avoid cleaning products, prolonged direct sunlight and damp conditions.

Sizing

Choose a size and presentation in the options above. Both editions keep the original image proportions.

Frequently Asked Questions

Which sizes are available?

You choose the short edge, from 30 up to 150 centimetres; the other edge is derived from the proportions of this painting itself, so the picture is never trimmed to fit. Each option is listed in centimetres and inches. The original measures 41.5 by 32.3 centimetres, and an original-size option reproduces those dimensions exactly.

Which medium can I choose?

Either of two reproductions; the original is held by the Barnes Foundation. The default is a hand-painted oil reproduction, painted in oils on canvas. The alternative is a canvas art print. You then choose the finish: rolled, stretched on a chassis, or set in a thin or a thick frame.

How is it delivered?

It is made for your order in the size, medium and finish you select. The production time for the medium you pick is shown with the options on this page, and shipping is calculated at checkout for your delivery address.
