Description
Pierre-Auguste Renoir paints a close bust study of a red-haired woman, her arms crossed and resting on a ledge before her as she turns a calm, direct gaze toward the viewer. A sheer white cloth slips loosely from her shoulder, and her auburn hair falls in loose waves past a flower tucked behind her ear. Behind her, a sunlit tangle of golden and green foliage opens to a strip of pale blue sky. Painted in 1910 at 48.4 by 56.4 centimeters, the work is held at the Barnes Foundation.
