Description
A small house with a pale cream facade and a slate blue-grey roof sits tucked into a dense stand of trees, glimpsed through a screen of leaves and branches. A tiny figure in blue stands near the doorway, almost swallowed by the surrounding foliage. Above the treeline, a pale, cloud streaked sky opens up between the dark canopy on either side.
Renoir works the whole canvas in short, choppy strokes of green, gold and olive, letting patches of the house and sky flicker through the leaves rather than presenting a clear view, so the eye has to search through the vegetation to find the building at the heart of the scene.
This reproduction is available as a hand-painted oil or an archival canvas print, made to order in the size you choose and kept true to the proportions of Renoir’s original composition.
