Description
A single towering palm spreads its golden-green fronds over a country house with a warm orange-tiled roof, half hidden among dense garden greenery. In the lower left, a woman in a long dress and wide hat stands quietly beneath the trees, giving human scale to the lush, sun-dappled scene. Painted in 1902 and held in the Detroit Institute of Arts, this work shows Renoir’s late fascination with the palm as a subject in its own right.
