Description
A screen of gnarled pine and olive trees fills most of this sunlit canvas, their dark twisting trunks and dense green canopy framing a bright wedge of the Mediterranean visible between the branches. Beyond the trees the sea shows in deep blue with a rocky point jutting into the water, while low scrubby growth, pale rocks, and wildflowers cover the grassy foreground.
Painted near Menton on the French Riviera, the canvas is built from short, loaded strokes of green, blue, and cream that capture the dazzle of southern light filtering through leaves rather than any single sharp detail.
The original is held by the Museum of Fine Arts Boston. What is offered here is a faithful reproduction of that painting, either a hand-painted oil version on canvas, recreated stroke by stroke by a professional painter, or an archival canvas print made with fade-resistant pigment inks, available in a range of sizes.
