Description
Here Renoir paints a bend in the Seine at Champrosay with no figures at all, letting the river itself carry the picture. Thick reeds and grasses, streaked with rust, gold and dark green, crowd the near bank, while the water beyond turns a deep, saturated blue that mirrors the sweeping clouds above. A green slope rises on the right, and a hazy village sits low on the far shore.
The paint is applied thickly and rapidly, with visible loaded strokes in the grasses and sky, giving the whole canvas a windswept, immediate feel rare among Renoir’s quieter river views.
This piece is available as a hand-painted oil reproduction or an archival canvas print, made to order in the size you choose, true to the proportions of the original painting.
