Description
Renoir paints a dense stretch of woodland seen from close up, with layered branches and leaves in every shade of green closing over a narrow path that opens at the bottom of the canvas. Dappled light breaks through the canopy in small patches, catching the undergrowth in flashes of yellow green and pale gold.
No figures appear; the whole composition is given over to the thick, tangled foliage, painted in quick overlapping strokes that build a rich, almost abstract texture of greens, from deep bottle green in the shadows to bright chartreuse where the sun breaks through. Dated 1877, the painting is part of the collection of the Ulster Museum.
What is offered here is not the original painting but a faithful reproduction: a hand-painted oil version on canvas, recreated stroke by stroke by a professional painter, or an archival canvas print made with fade-resistant pigment inks, available in a range of sizes from close to the original 49.5 by 62.8 cm canvas up to a larger wall feature.
