Description
Jeune fille au chapeau shows a young girl seen from the side, glancing downward as she holds a small bunch of white flowers. She wears a wide straw hat trimmed with a bold coral bow and a spray of orange leaves, and a pale pink blouse gathered at the neck with a soft white lace collar. Her long brown hair falls loose down her back.
Renoir builds the picture with quick, visible strokes, setting the warm coral of the hat trim against a loosely brushed background of ochre, green, and pale blue. The paint is worked freely around the edges of the figure, giving the portrait an informal, sketch-like immediacy.
Painted around 1890 and held at the Montreal Museum of Fine Arts, the canvas measures 41.5 by 32.5 centimetres. We reproduce it as a hand-painted oil on canvas or as an archival print, offered in a range of sizes to fit any wall.
