Description
Jeune femme à l’ombrelle (Alice Nunès) shows a young girl standing in a meadow, tilting a large parasol lined in dusty pink and pale blue over her shoulder. She wears a dark green jacket edged with white lace at the collar and cuffs, a black hat trimmed with dark feathers and a red flower, and a white ruffled underskirt that shows beneath the hem. Her long auburn hair falls loose past her shoulders, and she holds a small bouquet of yellow and white flowers in her free hand.
Renoir sets her against tall grass dotted with red poppies and small wildflowers, the greens and golds of the field built up in short, loaded strokes. The parasol’s pale fabric catches the light against the darker foliage behind, and the whole scene has the loose, sunlit handling typical of his outdoor portraits of the period.
Painted in 1883, the work is reproduced as a hand-painted oil on canvas or as an archival print, offered in a range of sizes from an intimate study to a larger statement piece.
