Description
Renoir climbs high above the shoreline for this view over the Bay of Moulin Huet on Guernsey, looking down through a green and gold valley of gorse and wild grass toward a narrow strip of grey-blue sea. Chalky cliffs rise on either side, catching the light in patches of white, rose and lilac, while a soft, hazy sky closes the scene at the horizon.
There is not a single figure in the canvas. The whole picture is given over to loose, comma-shaped strokes of ochre, moss green and violet that build the tangled hillside foliage, a plein air study of a summer coastline painted quickly and directly.
Each reproduction is a hand-painted oil or an archival canvas print, made to order in the size you choose and kept true to the proportions of Renoir’s original view of Moulin Huet.
