Description
Golfe, mer, falaises vertes is a coastal landscape looking across a bay toward a headland covered in green scrub and rocky outcrops touched with rust-red. A cluster of small buildings sits at the top of the cliff, and hazier blue hills recede further along the coast. A calm turquoise strip of sea separates the cliffs from a stretch of sandy, grassy foreground.
Renoir paints the sky in broad, loose sweeps of blue and white with a single streak of pink cloud, and lets the same loose brushwork carry through the grass and cliffside, so the whole scene feels sunlit and breezy rather than precisely mapped.
Painted in 1895, this coastal view is reproduced as a hand-painted oil on canvas or as an archival print, offered in a range of sizes to bring the feel of a seaside afternoon to any room.
