Description
Jeune femme à l’ombrelle shows a woman seated on the grass beneath a large white parasol, its underside tinged with warm shadow and a small red mark near the edge. She wears a pale cream dress and a dark hat trimmed with a flower, her head turned to the side in the dappled light. Behind her, a tree trunk and leafy branches rise against a patch of clear blue sky, with tall grass surrounding her on the ground.
Renoir paints the whole scene in loose, warm strokes of gold, olive, and cream, letting the sunlit grass and the folds of the dress blend into one another. The parasol’s white canopy is built with thick, confident strokes that catch the light, while the woman’s face and the surrounding foliage are left softer and more suggested, giving the work the feel of an open-air sketch.
Painted in 1872, we reproduce this work as a hand-painted oil on canvas or as an archival print, available in a range of sizes.
