Description
Danseuse à castagnettes (1895) is a loosely brushed study of a young dancer caught mid-pose, one arm raised above her head with castanets in hand, the other arm extended outward. She wears a pale rose-toned costume with a red scarf knotted at her neck and turns her head toward the viewer with lips slightly parted.
Renoir leaves the warm ochre background almost bare, letting the loose, sketch-like brushwork of the figure carry the sense of movement.
