Description
A dense, overflowing bouquet of chrysanthemums fills this 1881 still life, its shaggy white and golden-yellow blooms mixed with touches of orange and pink amid dark green foliage. The flowers spill from a dark, round pot set on a table covered with a pale blue-green patterned cloth, all set against a warm, reddish-brown backdrop that makes the pale petals glow. Renoir builds the whole composition from short, layered strokes, letting the flowers dissolve into one another rather than isolating each bloom. The painting now belongs to the Art Institute of Chicago and is one of several flower still lifes he returned to throughout his career.
This vivid bouquet is reproduced here as a museum-quality wall-art print, offered on canvas or fine-art paper, made to order in the size and finish that suit your room.
