Description
Measuring just 8.5 by 6.2 centimetres, this 1917 miniature shows a young girl’s face emerging from a dark, deeply shadowed ground, her pale skin and blue eyes the only clearly lit passage in the composition.
Her hair reads as a soft dark mass framing her face, and a touch of pink-red drapery, likely a sleeve, appears at the lower right corner. Held today at the Petit Palais, this late, intimate sketch shows Renoir working at a jewel-like scale, reducing a portrait to its barest, most atmospheric essentials.
Despite its tiny original scale, this 1917 miniature can be reproduced at whatever size suits your wall, hand-painted in oils on canvas or printed as an archival giclee on canvas. Every piece is made to order and delivered ready to hang.
