Description
A bather bends further forward than in Renoir’s related versions of this pose, looking down and to the side as she draws a white cloth across her hip. A reddish-orange drape is bunched at the right, set against dense, dark green foliage that fills most of the canvas.
Painted in 1908 and held by the Barnes Foundation, the canvas (92.5 by 74 cm) is one of several bather-drying compositions Renoir returned to that year, this one distinguished by its deeper bend and the warm orange-red of the drapery beside her. The print keeps that drapery glowing against the dark green, so it reads as a deliberate accent rather than an afterthought.
