Description
Rendered in soft, chalky pastel strokes, this outdoor scene shows two women resting near a wooded pool. On the left, a nude figure with long loose brown hair sits with her back to the viewer, holding a white cloth in one hand as she looks off to the side. Beside her, a second woman reclines in a white dress and a wide straw hat trimmed with red flowers, her dark hair falling over her shoulders as she too turns away from the viewer. Tree trunks and dappled green foliage rise around them, with a patch of pale blue sky breaking through the leaves above.
Painted in 1894 and held at the Tel Aviv Museum of Art, the picture pairs an undressed and a dressed figure in a shaded, informal outdoor setting, a favorite theme of Renoir’s later work.
This reproduction of The Bathers is available as a hand-painted oil copy on canvas or as an archival giclee print, made to order in the size of your choice and delivered ready to hang.
