Description
A cluster of red and gold apples spills across a white cloth at left, one apple sits alone in the middle distance, and to the right two more apples rest with their green leaves still attached on a blue-and-white patterned plate. The long, narrow canvas is painted in warm reds, yellows, and greens against a soft brown and blue-grey background.
Painted around 1890, the elongated format lets Renoir spread the fruit out almost like a frieze, balancing the loose pile on one side against the more composed pair on the plate at the other. The painting is held at the High Museum of Art.
Still Life with Apples is available as a hand-painted oil reproduction on canvas or as an archival canvas print, made to order in a range of sizes and shipped ready to hang.
