Description
Painted in 1918, this close portrait brings us near enough to see the sitter’s soft, unhurried gaze and the pink rose tucked into her dark hair. Adele Besson looks slightly down and to the side, her cream blouse loosely painted in broad, warm strokes against a mustard-yellow backdrop built up in streaks of gold and olive.
It is a late, tender work: the brushwork is loose and confident, favoring warmth and softness over sharp detail, and the rose at her temple is the single bright accent on an otherwise golden, close-toned canvas.
We print this portrait with special attention to that golden warmth, using pigment inks on fine-art paper or canvas that hold the subtle blush of the skin tones, available in several sizes for a hallway or reading nook.
