Description

A woman with auburn hair pinned up in loose curls turns her head slightly, her dark eyes and calm mouth catching soft light. She wears a deep red dress with a high, snugly wrapped collar that rises almost to her jaw, one shoulder draped with a pale cream sash or scarf that falls diagonally across her chest.

Renoir sets her against a pale, dry-brushed wall of grey-green and soft yellow, the background left thin and loosely worked so that the saturated red of the dress dominates the whole composition. The paint on the dress is rich and fluid, with broad highlights of pink and white describing the fall of the fabric across her shoulders.

This portrait, Portrait de femme brune en robe rouge, is offered as a hand-painted oil reproduction on canvas, painted by hand to recreate the deep red of the dress, or as an archival giclee canvas print made from a high-resolution scan. Both are reproductions for your own wall, not the original 1892 painting.

The craft

The oil edition of this Renoir artwork is painted by hand on canvas. A canvas art print reproduces the image in ink, with the brushmarks visible in the picture rather than raised paint.

  • Oil editions painted individually by studio artists
  • Canvas prints reproduce the image on canvas
  • Individually quality-inspected before it leaves the studio
  • Made to order in your chosen size and presentation

Materials & Care

Materials

The oil reproduction is painted on cotton canvas; the art print is printed on canvas. Rolled canvas arrives without a stretcher. Stretched canvas is mounted on a wooden stretcher frame; thin and thick frames are separate presentation choices.

On request, the studio provides a certificate for your hand-painted reproduction; it certifies the studio's work, not an original by the artist.

Care

Dust gently with a soft, dry cloth. Avoid cleaning products, prolonged direct sunlight and damp conditions.

Sizing

Choose a size and presentation in the options above. Both editions keep the original image proportions.

Frequently Asked Questions

What sizes are available for this reproduction?

This portrait is offered in a range of standard reproduction sizes. The original's dimensions were not recorded, so we size your reproduction to suit your wall, from a compact study to a larger feature piece.

Is this a hand-painted reproduction or a print?

Both options are available. Our hand-painted oil reproductions are painted on canvas by an artist, matching the rich, fluid strokes of the red dress. Our archival giclee canvas prints use pigment inks on canvas. Neither is the original 1892 painting.

How is my order produced and delivered?

Every order is made to order and shipped worldwide, arriving stretched and ready to hang. Hand-painted oil reproductions take longer to produce than canvas prints, since each is painted individually by hand.
