Description
A small child with a dark, tousled crop of hair sits close to the picture plane, dark eyes turned slightly away in a thoughtful, slightly wary expression. One hand holds a small pale object, perhaps a biscuit or a little toy, close to the chest, while a pale ruffled dress spills in loose, dry strokes across the shoulders. A small reddish table edge appears at the lower right, just enough to place the child indoors.
Renoir works the whole background in warm, hatched strokes of red and orange pastel, so the figure seems to sit inside a glow of colour rather than a defined room. The dry, crumbly texture of the pastel is left visible throughout, giving the portrait an immediate, sketch-like freshness.
We offer this portrait as a hand-painted oil reproduction on canvas, painted by hand to echo its warm, hatched surface, or as an archival giclee canvas print taken from a high-resolution scan. Both are reproductions made for your home, not the original pastel.
