Description

The entire painting is 12.8 by 8.3 centimetres, smaller than a postcard, and Renoir puts two figures in it. A pale one fills the left and centre, blonde, her face made of two pink touches and a red dot, her body a single sweep of white, rose and pale blue. A dark blue green mass of foliage rises behind her.

At the right, a second figure stands in a black coat and dark hat with a yellow accent at the chest, on ground laid in blue and yellow strokes. He is perhaps two centimetres tall on the original and he is unmistakably a person, which is the whole trick of the thing.

The strokes are loaded and wide relative to the format, and bare priming is left showing along the edges. Sage green, slate blue and cream carry the picture. A signature sits in dark paint at the lower right.

The craft

The oil edition of this Renoir artwork is painted by hand on canvas. A canvas art print reproduces the image in ink, with the brushmarks visible in the picture rather than raised paint.

  • Oil editions painted individually by studio artists
  • Canvas prints reproduce the image on canvas
  • Individually quality-inspected before it leaves the studio
  • Made to order in your chosen size and presentation

Materials & Care

Materials

The oil reproduction is painted on cotton canvas; the art print is printed on canvas. Rolled canvas arrives without a stretcher. Stretched canvas is mounted on a wooden stretcher frame; thin and thick frames are separate presentation choices.

On request, the studio provides a certificate for your hand-painted reproduction; it certifies the studio's work, not an original by the artist.

Care

Dust gently with a soft, dry cloth. Avoid cleaning products, prolonged direct sunlight and damp conditions.

Sizing

Frequently Asked Questions

What size will I receive?

The size you choose from the options here. Sizes are set by the short edge, from 30 up to 150 centimetres, and the long edge follows this painting's own proportions, so nothing is cropped or stretched. Every option is shown in centimetres and inches. The original is tiny, 12.8 by 8.3 centimetres, and an original-size option reproduces exactly that; every larger size widens brushwork that was already wide for the format.

How is the reproduction made?

In one of two media, both reproductions of the panel held by the National Gallery of Art. The default is a hand-painted oil reproduction, painted in oils on canvas. The alternative is a canvas art print. You then choose the finish: rolled, stretched on a chassis, or set in a thin or a thick frame.

How long will it take to arrive?

It is made for your order in the size, medium and finish you select. The production time for the medium you pick is shown with the options on this page, and shipping is calculated at checkout for your delivery address.
