Description

Renoir paints a mother and her young son together on a red upholstered sofa. She wears a gold headband and a black dress with an openwork lace sleeve, a string of pearls at her throat, and looks off to the side while her arm circles the child, who is dressed in a pale pink smock.

Behind them a deep red drapery covers the wall and a side table, set with a small bronze statuette and a tall vase overflowing with pink, white and yellow roses, its brushwork looser and more vivid than the carefully modeled faces.

This reproduction is offered as a hand-painted oil reproduction or an archival canvas print, made to order in the size you choose and true to the proportions of the original 73.3 x 92.5 cm painting.

The craft

The oil edition of this Renoir artwork is painted by hand on canvas. A canvas art print reproduces the image in ink, with the brushmarks visible in the picture rather than raised paint.

  • Oil editions painted individually by studio artists
  • Canvas prints reproduce the image on canvas
  • Individually quality-inspected before it leaves the studio
  • Made to order in your chosen size and presentation

Materials & Care

Materials

The oil reproduction is painted on cotton canvas; the art print is printed on canvas. Rolled canvas arrives without a stretcher. Stretched canvas is mounted on a wooden stretcher frame; thin and thick frames are separate presentation choices.

On request, the studio provides a certificate for your hand-painted reproduction; it certifies the studio's work, not an original by the artist.

Care

Dust gently with a soft, dry cloth. Avoid cleaning products, prolonged direct sunlight and damp conditions.

Sizing

Choose a size and presentation in the options above. Both editions keep the original image proportions.
