Description
At low tide, a rocky shoreline is exposed under thick drifts of reddish brown and gold seaweed, spreading across the whole foreground of the canvas. A lone figure stands at the water’s edge where the rocks meet the sea, small against the wide horizon. Beyond, a handful of sailboats with rust colored sails drift on a turquoise green sea, their masts catching what light breaks through a pale, overcast sky.
Renoir builds the exposed rocks and seaweed with thick, energetic strokes of ochre, rust and moss green, then loosens his brush for the sea and sky, blending blue grey and white into a soft, breezy atmosphere typical of his coastal studies at Yport.
This reproduction is available as a hand-painted oil or an archival canvas print, made to order in the size you choose and kept true to the proportions of Renoir’s original composition.
