Description
A hilltop village of white and ochre houses clusters around a square bell tower, its rooftops catching warm light beneath a pale, cloud streaked sky. Behind the village a bare rocky outcrop rises in soft tones of orange and mauve, while a hazy blue mountain range stretches along the horizon.
In the foreground, loose masses of trees and hedges in warm gold, green, and rust frame the view, their broad, rapid brushstrokes giving way to the more defined shapes of the buildings further back, a village widely identified with La Gaude in the hills above the Riviera where Renoir spent his later years.
The original belongs to the Barnes Foundation. What is offered here is a faithful reproduction, either a hand-painted oil version on canvas, recreated stroke by stroke by a professional painter, or an archival canvas print made with fade-resistant pigment inks, available in a range of sizes.
