Description
A woman in a pale straw hat and a light, loose dress bends over a bed of flowers in a densely planted garden, absorbed in her gardening among tall stems of pink and white blossoms. She is almost enveloped by the surrounding greenery, with a pale, statue-like figure glimpsed among the foliage to her right.
Thick, overlapping strokes of green in every shade, from deep shadow to sunlit yellow-green, build up the tangled hedges and trees that arch overhead, while patches of blue sky show only faintly at the upper edges of the canvas, giving the whole scene an enclosed, hothouse warmth.
The original belongs to the Barnes Foundation. What is offered here is a faithful reproduction, either a hand-painted oil version on canvas, recreated stroke by stroke by a professional painter, or an archival canvas print made with fade-resistant pigment inks, available in a range of sizes.
