Description
Renoir looks down across a wooded hillside toward a cluster of red-roofed houses and a slender tower gathered on the slope below, with a range of soft blue hills rising behind them under a sky streaked with rose-tinted clouds. In the foreground a screen of trees and shrubs in loosely brushed greens, golds and touches of red frames the view, with a single trunk rising at the right edge of the canvas.
The loose, rapid brushwork and warm, sun-touched palette are characteristic of the small landscape sketches Renoir painted in the south of France in his later years, when he returned again and again to the view from a hillside garden down toward the village below.
The original is held by the Barnes Foundation. What is offered here is a faithful reproduction of that painting: a hand-painted oil version on canvas, recreated stroke by stroke by a professional painter, or an archival canvas print made with fade-resistant pigment inks, available in a range of sizes.
