Description
Renoir shows a nude woman seen from behind and the side, her hair swept into a soft chignon, seated on white drapery with a scarlet red cushion at her side. She leans over one raised knee, drying her leg with a small white cloth, caught in the quiet, unposed moment just after leaving the bath.
Behind her, warm golden rock and a screen of dense trees close off the middle distance, opening at the left onto a glimpse of blue green pond dotted with water lilies. The brushwork is soft and blended, built from warm flesh pink, ochre, and rose tones typical of Renoir’s late treatment of the bather theme, a subject he returned to again and again after 1890.
What is offered here is not the original but a faithful reproduction: a hand-painted oil version on canvas, recreated stroke by stroke by a professional painter, or an archival canvas print made with fade-resistant pigment inks, available in a range of sizes.
