Description
Jeune femme debout (Lise Tréhot) shows a young woman standing with her back to the viewer, seen from behind in a loose, sketch-like study. Her dark hair is gathered up, and she wears a pale cream shawl or wrap draped over a light dress, its folds rendered in broad, unblended strokes of white, grey and ochre.
She stands before an open landscape of green fields and what appears to be a still pond or river, painted with quick horizontal bands of yellow-green and dark green. Large areas of the raw canvas are left visible between the brushstrokes, giving the whole work the feel of a rapid outdoor study rather than a finished picture.
Painted in 1866, this early study is reproduced as a hand-painted oil on canvas or as an archival print, offered in a range of sizes to suit different walls.
