Description
Jean is a small, loosely sketched study of a child seen from behind and to the side, the face mostly turned away so that the blond, slightly reddish hair and the curve of the back of the head fill most of the composition. A white collar or smock is suggested at the shoulders with a few broad strokes.
Renoir works the whole surface quickly, with thin paint that lets the coarse weave of the canvas show through, especially in the greenish-grey background. A patch of deep red appears at the right edge, adding a single warm accent to an otherwise muted, unfinished-looking sketch.
We reproduce this painting as a hand-painted oil on canvas or as an archival print, available in a range of sizes so this intimate small study can suit a shelf, a gallery wall, or a nursery corner.
