Description
Head of Young Girl (Tete de jeune fille) is a half-length portrait of a fair-haired girl turning her head over her shoulder to face the viewer, her blue eyes wide and her lips slightly parted. Her strawberry-blonde hair is gathered loosely at the back, with soft curls falling across her forehead.
She wears a white off-the-shoulder dress with a lace-trimmed edge, tied at the neck with a pale green ribbon that echoes the deep green foliage filling the background. Renoir paints the girl’s skin in warm, luminous tones with touches of pink at the cheeks, while the surrounding greenery is worked in loose, dark, textured strokes that set off the brightness of her figure.
Painted in 1885 and held at the Barnes Foundation, the original measures 41.5 by 32.3 centimetres. We reproduce it as a hand-painted oil on canvas or as an archival print, available in a range of sizes to suit a small wall or a larger feature space.
