Description
Glaieuls shows a smaller, more restrained bouquet than Renoir’s other gladioli still lifes. Orange-red gladioli rise from a clear glass vase, their blades of green leaves crossing among the stems, while a cluster of white peony-like blooms and a single dark red flower sit lower in the arrangement. A few small pink blossoms peek out to the right.
The vase itself is rendered with quick, transparent strokes that suggest glass and reflected stems without close detail, set on a plain tabletop against a soft blue-grey wall. The palette stays warm and gentle, with the orange flowers as the clear focal point.
Painted in 1885 and held at the Musée d’Orsay, the original canvas measures 75 by 54.5 centimetres. We reproduce it as a hand-painted oil on canvas or as an archival print, offered in a range of sizes to suit a mantelpiece grouping or a larger wall.
