Description
Girls in the Grass Arranging a Bouquet shows two young girls close together in a field of tall grass and wildflowers. One lies stretched out on the ground in a white dress, her auburn hair falling loose as she leans on her arms. The other kneels beside her in a pink dress and a white bonnet trimmed with ribbon, bending over a bright bouquet of red, orange and blue blossoms held between them.
Renoir fills the field around the girls with loose dashes of red poppies, blue iris and green grass, painted with quick, broken strokes that blur into the hazy blue sky above. The bouquet at the centre of the composition gathers the same reds and blues scattered through the surrounding meadow, tying the two girls to the field they sit in.
Painted in 1890 and held at the Barnes Foundation, the canvas measures 32.5 by 42 centimetres. We reproduce it as a hand-painted oil on canvas or as an archival print, offered in a range of sizes to suit a small wall or a larger display.
