Description
Girl with a Basket of Oranges shows a young woman in profile, standing on a sandy path with the sea and low hills visible behind her. She wears a full white blouse, a teal bodice crossed with red straps, and a wide gold belt above a long striped skirt in cream and tan tones, with dark shoes beneath the hem. She holds a woven basket filled with oranges in one hand.
The tall, narrow canvas frames her standing figure against a soft, hazy landscape of sea, dunes and a golden shrub. Renoir paints the background loosely in blues and warm tans, while the woman’s blouse, the red straps of her bodice, and the bright orange fruit in the basket give the composition its strongest colour accents.
Painted in 1875 and held at the National Gallery of Art, the canvas measures 128.8 by 41.8 centimetres. We reproduce it as a hand-painted oil on canvas or as an archival print, offered in a range of sizes to suit a narrow hallway or a larger wall.
