Description
Girl in Gray-Blue is a half-length portrait of a young woman with red hair and pale blue eyes, turning her head over her shoulder to look directly at the viewer. She wears a wide-brimmed hat trimmed with a tall white feather, and a grey-blue dress with a striped collar buttoned to the neck; her gloved hands are gathered in front of her.
Renoir paints the dress and background in closely related tones of blue-grey and soft ochre, so the pale face and red hair stand out as the brightest note in the picture. A warm reddish drape appears at the lower right, adding a touch of colour contrast to the otherwise muted, harmonious palette.
Painted in 1889 and held at the Barnes Foundation, the canvas measures 66.5 by 52 centimetres. We reproduce it as a hand-painted oil on canvas or as an archival print, offered in a range of sizes.
