Description
Girl Tatting shows a young woman with short, reddish-blonde hair bent over her lacework, a small shuttle held between the fingers of one hand while the other guides the thread. She wears a high-necked white blouse patterned with round, lace-like medallions, its sleeves gathered with striped cuffs.
Renoir sets the pale, richly textured blouse against a dark, blended green background, letting the white and cream fabric catch the light. The face is softly modelled with warm pink tones on the cheeks and lips, while the hands and thread are picked out with quick, precise touches of paint that convey the delicate, close work of tatting.
Painted in 1906 and held at the Philadelphia Museum of Art, the canvas measures 56.5 by 46.7 centimetres. We reproduce it as a hand-painted oil on canvas or as an archival print, offered in a range of sizes.
