Description
Two slender pine trees lean together atop a rocky, scrub-covered rise, their wind-blown tufts of foliage rendered in quick touches of green, ochre, and dark red. Behind them a loose wash of blue stands in for sky and distant hills, while the foreground slope is built up in strokes of rust, gold, and olive suggesting dry grass and low bushes, with a few pale boulders scattered among the growth.
Renoir leaves much of the paper bare around the edges, and the drawing beneath the color is still visible in places, giving the sheet the loose, spontaneous feel of a study made quickly out of doors, likely during one of his stays on the Mediterranean coast.
What is offered here is not the original but a faithful reproduction: a hand-painted oil version on canvas, recreated stroke by stroke by a professional painter, or an archival canvas print made with fade-resistant pigment inks, available in a range of sizes to suit any wall.
