Description
A hillside town climbs in tiers of ochre, pink and cream houses under a blue Mediterranean sky, their tiled roofs and shuttered windows stacked one above the other along a terraced slope. In the foreground garden, a low stone wall and lush, sun-baked greenery, palm fronds, dark shrubs and reedy plants, frame a small seated figure in a red top and white headscarf, barely more than a few strokes of color.
Renoir builds the scene with quick, textured touches, thick ochre and rose for the sunstruck walls, deeper greens and reds for the tangled foliage below, so that architecture and garden seem to grow into each other. The warm southern light flattens the distinction between wall and vine, giving the whole terrace a hazy, sun-drenched unity typical of Renoir’s work on the Riviera.
This sun-warmed hillside view suits a wall as gladly as it once suited a Mediterranean terrace: available as a made-to-order canvas print in a range of sizes up to large formats, shipped worldwide.
