Description

A single stemmed glass and a small knife sit beside a crusty half loaf of bread in this spare, intimate still life. Renoir builds the bread’s golden crust from thick strokes of ochre, cream and rust, while the glass catches cool white highlights against the warm red-orange wall behind the table. The composition is reduced to just these few objects, laid simply on a white cloth.
