Description
An allegorical young woman with long, loose golden hair steps through a garden thick with blue-green foliage, her white gown trailing behind her like mist. One hand reaches down toward the flowers at her side, and pale birds flutter in the upper corner of the canvas, adding to the sense of a figure caught mid-movement.
Renoir dissolves the whole scene into soft, chalky strokes of blue, green and cream, so that the woman’s dress and the surrounding plants seem to merge into one another. The effect is dreamlike and decorative, closer to a personification of the season of Spring than to a portrait of a specific person.
This piece is offered as a hand-painted oil reproduction on canvas or as an archival giclee canvas print, a reproduction of Renoir’s original allegorical panel rather than the original work.
