Description
Jeune fille au chapeau shows a young woman resting her cheek against her raised hand, looking out at the viewer with a calm, half-smiling expression. She wears a wide straw hat decorated with a large pink rose and a cluster of white blooms, and a loose white sleeveless chemise that leaves her shoulders bare.
Renoir paints her in warm, golden light, the whole surface built from soft, blended strokes of ochre and cream that merge the figure into the glowing background. The pink and white flowers on the hat brim are the brightest notes of colour in an otherwise honey-toned canvas.
Painted in 1910 and held at the Sompo Museum of Art, the work is reproduced as a hand-painted oil on canvas or as an archival print, offered in a range of sizes so it can be scaled to fit any wall.
