Description
Gabrielle au jardin shows a young woman standing on a sunlit garden path, caught mid-step as she turns toward the viewer. She wears a wide straw hat trimmed with a pale pink bow, a loose orange-red blouse gathered at the waist, and a blue-grey skirt whose hem lifts to reveal an orange underskirt. Behind her, a slender tree trunk and a dense screen of green foliage fill the background, dissolving into loose patches of light and shadow.
Renoir builds the scene with quick, visible brushstrokes and a warm palette that sets the sitter’s orange blouse against the cooler greens of the garden. The paint is worked thinly in places, letting the canvas ground show through, and the whole surface has the loose, sketch-like immediacy typical of his garden portraits from this period.
Painted in 1905 and now held at the Musée de l’Orangerie in Paris, the canvas measures 55 by 46 centimetres. We reproduce it as a hand-painted oil on canvas or as an archival print, available in a range of sizes so the intimate portrait can be scaled to fit a reading corner, a hallway, or a larger wall.
