Description
A garden path is crowded on both sides with beds of red, orange and yellow flowers, so dense they nearly swallow the figures moving among them. Two seated girls in pale dresses and straw hats rest close to the flower beds, while a third figure in a vivid red dress stands further back near the corner of a house with a blue-green doorframe.
Renoir lets the garden itself carry the composition, building the blooms from thick, overlapping dabs of red, orange and gold against layers of green foliage, with the sky reduced to a pale gap of blue and cream in the distance. The figures are loosely brushed, almost absorbed into the surrounding colour.
This piece is offered as a hand-painted oil reproduction on canvas or as an archival giclee canvas print, a reproduction of Renoir’s original garden scene rather than the original painting.
