Description
Rather than a bouquet in a vase, this long, narrow panel shows anemone blossoms scattered loosely across the canvas as if strewn on a table, their petals painted in salmon pink and brick red around dark, almost black centers. A few blooms turn face-on toward the viewer, showing off their inky purple-black cores, while others are seen from the side or half-hidden behind their neighbors.
Renoir stretches the composition wide and low, letting the flowers drift from edge to edge over a loosely brushed ground of olive and gold, with only a hint of blue cloth glimpsed near the lower right. The petals themselves are painted with thick, confident strokes, layering coral over rose over white so the flowers seem to glow from within against the softer, hazier background.
This unusual panoramic still life of anemones is offered as a made-to-order canvas reproduction in a range of sizes up to large formats, shipped worldwide, well suited to a long wall above a sofa or sideboard.
