Description

Seen from behind, a seated nude woman with auburn hair turns her head gently to one side, a white cloth draped loosely across her lap. Renoir builds her full, rounded back and shoulders from warm strokes of peach, rose, and gold, blending her figure into a loosely painted setting of golden foliage, a touch of blue sky above, and warm orange fruit or flowers near her side. The whole canvas is worked in the soft, glowing palette and free, unblended brushwork typical of Renoir’s later bather paintings.
