Description
Jeune femme tenant une fleur (Portrait de Jeanne Samary) shows a young woman seen from the shoulders up, her head tilted downward as she looks at a small pink rose held between her fingers. Her hair is swept up, her shoulders are bare above an off-the-shoulder white bodice trimmed with lace, and a dark sash cinches her waist below.
Renoir renders the figure in soft, chalky strokes of cream, blush pink, and pale blue, with the skin left luminous against the warm beige background. The rose is picked out in delicate touches of pink and green, echoing the blush on her cheeks, while the loosely hatched dark bodice and reddish skirt anchor the otherwise pale, airy composition.
Painted around 1879, we reproduce this portrait as a hand-painted oil on canvas or as an archival print, available in a range of sizes.
